The word is getting out about Believer…

Published 11 months ago • 1 min read

Y'all. This past week has been…incredible.

The love and support I've received for this album has just been staggering. The greatest compliment of all has been people saying that they can hear how much time and care was put into making the music—that really warms my heart the most.

I just wanted to take a moment to share a few more of the reviews that have come in thus far. These folks took the time to write about the album and share it with their followers, so the least we can do is give them a few clicks, right?

From Bob Marovich of the Journal of Gospel Music: "Believer is an earthen vessel of relatable lyrics, likable melodies, fresh and vibrant elements of hip hop, and an ever-shifting, never-derivative tone."

From Turtle Tempo: "With its bright and infectious grooves perfectly elevating his soul-infused voice throughout, ["Better Place"] will have you up and out of your seat in no time."

From Tim Dillinger (my spouse and album executive producer) of God's Music Is My Life: "Believer is a tour de force of genres, bridging gospel with folk, rock, pop and all the good things that BeBe and CeCe Winans’ late 80s/early 90s recordings made listeners feel."

From Flex Music Blog: “Entering a new era, with a sharp focus on creating evergreen excellence, the icon in the making envisions a multitude of creative influences interlocking to create a pure, unadulterated sonic experience.”

I was blessed with the opportunity to sit down for an amazing talk with renowned music critic Craig Seymour for SoulMusic.com's Soul Talkin' interview series. We talked a bunch about the album's inspirations and messaging, my upbringing, and my hopes for the album now that it's in the world. What a treat!

Me and my fellow Believer producers Brandon Adams and Tim Dillinger also sat down for an extended chat about the album, doing a track-by-track breakdown of each song's inspirations, production process, and collaborators. Check out Part 1 & Part 2 of that live stream on Facebook!

More to come, but I just want to communicate how humbled I am by all of the word of mouth being generated around the project. It makes it all well, well worth the wait.
